“Truths and roses have thorns about them.” -Henry David Thoreau
Happy hump day!
I have been loving the sun as of late! Although, I think Angus is quite alright with any weather as long as he doesn’t get too cold or too hot.
I think that this quote is about accepting the good with the bad. You must realize that something that is good over all, like a rose, is bound to come with something a bit prickly.
Dogs are great at living in the moment, and taking what comes to them in stride. They will still go for that piece of food close to the edge of the counter, even if they might get caught. Sure, that was yummy! It was totally worth getting trouble.
I am not saying that as humans we should just act and not care about the consequences. In fact, we should be aware of the consequences. But, I think we try very hard to make everything perfect. Nothing will ever be perfect! There will always be a downside to a decision. It is up to you to decide if it is worth it.
Maybe you’ve had your eye on a dream job, and now there is an opportunity to take it. But, you are sure that quitting your current job may cause bad blood. Well, go for that job! It is what you want (and pleasing yourself is important). The bad blood is just like thorns on a rose. The thorns are inconsequential in comparison to the beauty of the flower!
Angus says it is ok to be selfish, and to consider the backlash from others as the thorns on your rose!
