“The word ‘happiness’ would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.” -Carl Jung
Angus looked so sad when I came to walk him yesterday. He hurt his back left leg, and wasn’t feeling very happy about it. Poor guy! I know how it feels when you hurt and don’t really want to do anything. I wanted him to know that it is ok that he is sad, and that it will get better!
I feel like Carl Jung’s quote pretty much covers it. In Angus’ case, he really won’t appreciate how good and happy he feels when his leg has healed if he hadn’t hurt it in the first place. It is quite possible that he will forget it all together. But, it is the range in emotion and feeling that allows people (and dogs) to appreciate the high of happiness! The valleys are what makes the peaks so beautiful and precious!
